Innovation strength of the Business Unit Engineering

Dear reader,

With over 100 software developers the Nemetschek BU Engineering is investing in future-oriented solutions for the 4 major market segments, i.e. Engineering Design, Structural Detailing, Precast Fabrication and Steel Construction. Gradually the development teams are sharing software technologies and are integrating each other's modules to gain the development speed.

The joined efforts concentrate on the big challenges of Nemetschek: internationalization with increased analysis and design functions, taking up web and cloud technologies for more mobil computing & visualization, BIM workflow support for increased interoperability between construction project partners, breakthrough technologies in modelling, design, detailing and fabrication.

Each of the products has a detailed roadmap describing the content of upcoming releases in the next years. Hot topics are: NA's (National Annexes) for Eurocodes in Frilo Statics and Scia Engineer, advanced seismicity in Scia Engineer, parametric intelligent modelling in Allplan Engineering, open BIM enhancements in IFC model exchanges (precast), multi-project planning (Master Scheduler) and many more.

The Asian building industry and, in particular, the precast business have been developing highly dynamically over the past few years. The advantages of precast concrete, such as quality, productivity and efficiency, receive growing appreciation from construction companies as well as from building authorities all over Southeast Asia. In order to provide additional impetus to the development of the local precast industry, Nemetschek Engineering GmbH – the precast division of the Nemetschek Group – decided to initiate the Asian version of a well-tried and very successful industrial event: the Engineering Days.

For the first time Scia has launched a product release in pure digital way; since the beginning of June a dedicated website www.sciaengineer2012.com is online. More than 3,000 visitors came by, and 500 readers registered to the website to learn more about Scia Engineer, read "what's new?", technical documentation, watch movies, learn tips & tricks and find pre-announcement on upcoming releases.

The school center in Furth im Wald, Bavaria, opened its doors around 40 years ago. Since then, pupils have been attending, and sharing classrooms, school yard and assembly hall. Now it was time to put the buildings through a thorough check. A new spatial concept aims to ensure harmonious school processes while being sustainable and future proof. According to this new concept the elementary and secondary school will continue to be a part of the same building complex, but they will be split into two separate areas, each with its own school yard.
