SCIA Corporate News: Enabling Productive Construction through IT

SCIA has a reputation for bringing advanced analysis and design software for a variety of structures; its flagship products SCIA.ESA Professional Technology and ESA-Prima Win are the preferred choice of more than 4000 clients worldwide. SCIA is the only CAE software author who recently has achieved a total redesign and rewrite of its core software.

Less known are the tailor-made projects that SCIA delivers for clients. There are 3 major activities: steel fabrication software, concrete prefab software and finally customised design applications.

The rise of the price of steel provoked the investment of steel trading companies in short term fabrication units; during the past year SCIA has installed its ‘management and fabrication software’ at tens of companies; a large portion of them are situated in ... <more>

3 new Allplan modules: steel design / roundabouts / tactrix curves

Allplan Steel Design

In your familiar Allplan environment, with objects such as brickwork walls, concrete columns, system floors, windows in glass, steel built-in elements, ... it is now possible to work with steel templates. Make your choice out of the many parameterized templates and model your steel structure, connections included. It is not only possible to modify the model by retrieving and adapting its parameters in Allplan, but also to alter it in SCIA.ESA PT. An example, after having performed a profile optimization in SCIA.ESA PT, the changes are immediately visible in Allplan.
As before, it is possible to generate views and cuts from the Allplan model. Since the model is also an SCIA.ESA PT project, the automatic overview drawings or detail drawings from ... <more>

The ‘European Technological Platform for the Construction Industry’

On March 1st, 2005 the first meeting of the ‘European Technological Platform for the Construction Industry’ was held in Brussels. The European Technological Platform is composed of representatives of all levels of the construction industry - contractors, architects, engineers, suppliers of materials, research institutes and operators - and of other sectors, which are directly affected by the success of this sector, e.g. national governments, members of the European Parliament, cities, financial institutions, user groups, as well as the ONG sector ... <more>

Winners of the SCIA User Contest 2005

In previous eNews letters, we extensively paid attention to the SCIA User Contest 2005.

An international jury, composed of members from universities and important companies, gathered at SCIA on the 14th of February to judge about 85 projects; a difficult task if one considers the extreme high technical level of the participating projects and the attractive ways in how they were presented by their originators. We are proud to present you in this eNews edition of April, the winners in each of the four contest categories.

And the winners are … <more>

Tips & Tricks: Enhancing the CAD-Shape

In Advanced Mode, the CAD-shape of a structure can be enhanced by calculating member end-cuts

This option can be found in the Modify menu where different methods are possible. Using the option Splice for instance, it is possible to generate the section between two members including even a gap between the two:

Using this functionality, the CAD-shape can be greatly ... <more>.
