At the beginning of this new year, let us share a positive view on the ongoing evolutions in the world.
The development of new renewable energy technology is speeding up and the world leaders finally agreed to stimulate green ecological constructions. Despite the negative news on recession, financial crisis and restructuring measures, the world is moving towards a better world.
The technology is being developed rapidly; there are surprising projects, to name one Masdar City (Abu Dhabi, UAE) where a 100% cleantech (zero CO2 - 100% renewable energy) city is being constructed (see www.masdarcity.ae).

It is obvious that there is a lot of work for engineers and construction professionals; not only new structures must be conceived, but our whole infrastructure and patrimony needs constant inspection, safety assessments and renovations to prolong its lifetime.
Today the Burj Dubai (UAE) is being opened officially; we want to congratulate the builders and in the first place our client BESIX, who has been one of the main contractors. Most spectacular is the height of 818 m, a new world record. To prepare carefully the execution of the bearing structure, BESIX has used extensively the software ‘Scia Engineer’; a reason for Scia to share the pride in the latest engineering wonder.
In 2010 the Eurocodes (read Scia's Eurocodes Explanatory Note) will be adopted in most countries of the European Union, this will be one of the main activities for Scia to help its clients in making this move.
Further Scia is stepping up the support of the BIM (building information modelling) process changes with enhanced interoperability towards other 3D modelling software and with new productivity functions.
Finally Scia will continue its efforts of internationalisation through its offices in the USA, Brazil, the Middle East and all offices spread over Europe.
