The winners of our customer contest are known!
Last 19th April, the judging of our renowned "SCIA User Contest" version 2007 took place.
A whole day, our jury members went into the 99 submitted projects. It was not simple... but there emerged a winner in each of the 5 categories. Find out more details further on in this newsletter!
The results of the "International Eurocode Inquiry" have also been processed.
This inquiry was also an initiative of SCIA: the results are surprising. Read more about this further in this eNews.

| The market of prefabrication and the Eurocodes: KP1 and SCIA together |

The company KP1, leader of the prefabrication sector in France, recently signed a major development project with SCIA.
Within the framework of the transition of the national codes to the Eurocodes for the justification of structures and ready-made elements, KP1 charged SCIA to work out an optimized and state of the art calculation engine for the complete checking according to the Eurocodes of linear elements of structures (beams) from reinforced or prestressed concrete;
this all based on the SCIA software SCIA•ESA PT.
The long experience of SCIA in prestressing and the Eurocodes, as well as its international status and membership of the Nemetschek group, were the key factors in the choice of this partnership for KP1.

Train Loads module available in SCIA•ESA PT |
|
Today "Train Loads" is a well-appreciated module in ESA-Prima Win.
From version 2007.1 on, this module will also be released in
SCIA•ESA PT.
This module generates multiple load cases, each of which contains a set of free loads on 2D-elements. This default set of train loads is mostly defined in the national codes. In version 2007.1 a system database will be provided for each national code. Users are also able to introduce their own sets of loads if necessary.

| Confusion on the introduction of the Eurocodes - Results of the survey |

Around the Structural Eurocodes many myths have appeared. The following statements areoften heard "in my country we will never abandon the national codes", "Eurocodes make constructions much more expensive", "Eurocodes are not valid here", ...
SCIA has launched a survey on the understanding of the Eurocode, resulting in surprising misunderstandings, among them:
- 60% of the respondents to the survey believe that the national codes will not disappear,
- 52% of the engineers believe that the Eurocodes lead to more expensive structures,
- 15% of the engineers believe that the Eurocodes will only be introduced in their country after 2010.

The outcome of the SCIA User Contest 2007 is known!
Last April 19th , an international jury, composed of specialists from the academic and business world, gathered to judge the projects of the 5 contest categories. It must be said: the jury performed its task brilliantly. Especially if you consider that from the 99 submitted projects, a lot of them are on the same level when it comes to technical and presentation level.
We sincerely congratulate the winners and wish to thank every participant individually; we also congratulate everybody with his proven achievements with the SCIA "CAE and CAD" software.

Easy comparison of projects with "ESA-Update" in SCIA•ESA PT |

Often, projects are treated by more than one engineer. During this process a lot of files change hands.
Because of this, it is not always clear which changes occurred between different files.
With the function "ESA update", 2 files can easily be compared and the changes set visible.
This function can be found under "file", "update - ESA file".
Afterwards, the files, which have to be compared, have to be selected.
