SCIA ENGINEER NOW HAS THE ABILITY TO MODEL JOIST MEMBERS

Historically, including joists with realistic physical properties in building models has been very difficult for engineers. As a result, defining joists with non-uniform loading, or modeling joists in lateral load resisting frame systems was not practical. In v16, SCIA has partnered with the Steel Joists Institute (SJI) to introduce new Virtual Joist and Joist Girder sections that overcome these previous limitations.

BLAVATNIK SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT (UK) BY PELL FRISCHMANN

In this edition of SCIA's eNews we would like to put the Oxford School of Government in the spotlight. This project won our latest 2015 User Contest prize in the “Buildings” category. The Jury was impressed by the unique and complex circular shape of the concrete structure and by the practical use of a full 3D model. Moreover, the analysis of construction stages allowed the engineers to precisely assess the need for temporary supports and predict the deflections.

TIP SCIA Engineer: Transfer A project to AN older version via XML

SCIA Engineer allows the user to export a project to a XML file. XML is a text based database and it is independent on the version of SCIA Engineer. Therefore, it is possible to export a project file from a newer version and import it into an older version.
